Think about it - if nothing catches the skunks eye, it is not going to go anywhere near the trap, is it? Skunks are scavengers by nature so in reality, you could probably chuck any number of things in the trap to work as a tasty lure, but as with most wild animals, there will be some foods that work better than others. In order to figure out what works for your skunk, you should take a look at what he is doing in your yard. Is he stealing your cat or dog food? Is he scrambling around in your fruit trees trying to steal your delicious fruits? Is he rooting through garbage can and making a mess? The skunk is either still in the house, or it has already left to wander outside. Either way, if the animal wants to enter or leave the den, it has no choice but to go through the trap. If set properly, the device will look innocent enough, and the skunk shouldn't be too wary. Don't make your fenced pathway too long, and don't make it too short. You want to animal to feel like it has a choice in the matter, but you don't want to give it enough room to start digging for food before it reaches the cage.
