Can Raccoons In Your House or Attic Give You Fleas?

Here's an email that I got on the subject:

Hi David- My name is James. I live in Indianapolis, IN I live in a section 8, low income apartment complex. I have been having a lot of problems with raccoons living in my attic for 7 years. It sounds as if they are nesting in my living room and bedroom. I can hear them scratching into my air vents in both rooms.

I am concerned that if they have scratched through my vents there could be diseases and fleas coming in to my living space. For the last two months I have been getting bites on my arms and legs, back of neck, face. Mainly exposed areas. I have been to three different doctors. Yesterday, I had a biopsy done on one of the bites and will know in seven days what it is for sure. Last night, I believe I had a flea on my foot. Everyone one my floor, third floor, has had issues with raccoons. I have talked with the maintenance people, office people, raccoon trappers.

It seems as if they can not do anything about it. I also suffer from other illness- bi-polar disorder, high blood pressure, severe headaches, diabetes, and chronic pain. I am very frustrated and not sure what else I can do.

II was wondering if you would have any suggestions? Please help if you can. Thank you for your time, James

I also got an email about the concern of raccoon roundworm.
