Woodpecker Trapping - How To Trap

If you need woodpecker help, click my Nationwide List of Woodpecker Removal Experts for a pro near you.

A specialized trap, which is basically a birdhouse with a mouse snap trap inside, can kill woodpeckers. This is illegal, because woodpeckers, like most birds, are protected by the federal migratory bird protection act.

I have heard of special funnel traps which allow the woodpecker to enter but not exit, but then what? You can't relocate the bird, because it'll just find its way back to the original territory - presumably your house.

Some folks use a very stick substance on the pecking surface, such as a mouse or rat glue board stapled to the pecking area, to trap the woodpecker. There is no option in this case but to kill the stuck bird, which is, again, illegal.
