Pigeon Repellents
Most people love the sight of pigeons; they have
been domesticated and even trained by humans for
hundreds of years. A small amount of pigeons
flying by is a very beautiful sight, and that
may be the reason why they become pests. Some
people will feed them and with all the good
intentions in the world, end up with a home that
has mounds of bird droppings on the roofs or
eaves along with other waste that pigeons leave
behind. They can also be an annoyance when you
are trying to sleep by making noise that will
keep you awake or wake you up earlier than you
wanted on a weekend. So once you have a pigeon
pest problem you will want to solve it, and
there are some things you can do to keep them
away. Most of the methods that you will use are
things that you can make a permanent fixture in
your home, while others you can place as a
temporary measure. Here are some ideas to help
you keep pigeons away.
Bird Spikes
Bird spikes have been one of the most effective
solutions for many years to keep pest pigeons
away from the property. The technique started in
a very rustic form by using pieces of broken
glass that would prevent the birds from landing.
Of course broken glass is not as used anymore
because it is not esthetically pleasing. Today
there is an industry that will provide you with
spikes the right size for your home be it on
tall walls or the roof. If the pigeon has
nowhere to land on your property then it will go
somewhere else where it can land. This is a very
humane way of repelling the birds because spikes
will not harm birds. They will simply avoid the
spikes. There are many manufacturers and many
styles, but for the most part they are equally
effective in keeping pigeons off.
Bird Slope And Netting
Other effective measures include the bird slope
and netting. The bird slope is a slippery
incline on the roof that makes it almost
impossible for a bird to get a good grip. The
birds cannot stay on the slope so they will
slide off. Many people decide to go with the
slope as opposed to spikes because the slope can
be made to look like the rest of the house.
Depending on the level of professionalism of the
job you may not even notice that the slope is
there. Netting is the other choice that people
will choose because it is effective and works
great on taller buildings. They are very safe in
that they are water proof and fire resistant.
Cheapest Repellents
If you need a quick repellent that will not be
expensive then there are a few solutions for
you. If you visit a home and garden store you
can look for bird gel. The bird gel is a gel
that you put on the location where a bird likes
to stand and it will make it an uncomfortable
surface for it. If that is not something you
would like to do, you can always go to the
scarecrow technique. That does not mean that you
have to get a straw man; you can get something
that will be seen as a predator by the birds.
You can also use flash tape or tin foil. Though
those things may be a bit less effective in
general, they may be enough to keep the birds
away. Remember that once you have gotten the
birds to go you should always make sure to also
remove the food and water sources that may be on
the property; that way the pigeons will have no
reason to come back.
